Modified nylon belongs to the group of polyamides which have amino groups in its main chain. Amino groups are polar and are attracted to each other by hydrogen bonding. Therefore, nylon crystallises easily and can be made into very strong fibres. Polyamide is tough horny translucent or milky white crystalline resin, often made of cylindrical granules, for plastics polyamide molecular weight is generally 15,000 ~ 20,000.

The common characteristics of various polyamides are flame retardant, high tensile strength (up to 104MPa), wear-resistant, good electrical insulation, heat-resistant (in 455kPa heat distortion temperature are above 150 ℃), the melting point of 150 ~ 250 ℃, molten state of the resin has high mobility, the relative density of 1.05 ~ 1.15 (filler can be added to increase to 1.6), the majority of non-toxic.
